Drumkits From Dusty Breaks & Beats

“1990’s Kit” – This is some kit i downloaded on Direct Connect (DC++) a while back. I’m pretty sure it’s a workstation rip. But it has drums and snares and FX reminiscent of the mid 1990’s that’s for sure. Even the infamous Swizz Beatz “Vinyl Scratch”, also used by Just Blaze. A good kit to have for a retro vibe.

“BOTB 5 Swipez” - I’ve had this kit for a few months now, it’s fairly new. The story is that Soleternity was invited to the “Battle Of The Bay 5″ beat competition, and was given the instrumentals of the battles after it was over.  He dug in, and swiped some single shots from those producers for everyone else to use in their own production. Definitely a good kit for anyone looking for some sounds with a unique character. Each contestant used different gear and breaks.

“Bayroot Drums” – These are classic (rare). Bayroot used to have a site, they were like a vinyl diggin’ company or team of producers who simply chopped up records. They sold quite a few kinds of kits. This one I was able to get my hands on, from about 2005 (Maybe earlier). Good style of drums they chose for sure.

“Boon Doc Kit” -  (DEMO) Aka Boonie Mayfield. This kid has come up from out of no where. I’ve seen a few youtube’s of him doing his thing on the boards. Definitely a problem when it comes to funky basslines and drums. Not sure about any placements or projects, but he’s always on the grind, and particpating in various forums. You can visit his site and check out his music, story, and purchase the Full Kit (350 sounds) for only 50$ – A 15$ price drop since I last been.

“Croup’s Drums” - (DEMO) You can say he is Denmark’s best kept secret. Dude’s a beast on the boards, and his mix and quality is impeccable. I think he uses Reel to Reels and quite a few live instruments in his work. He shows alot of love to independents in the states. If you’re familiar with Justus League / Little brother and the affiliates of, you’ve bound to have heard a croup beat at some point. Apparently camera shy, but definitely been selling the best range of kits for underground / boom bap music. Check out his site and purchase them, you won’t regret it! Only 50$ for both kits!

The rest of these are Swipes, that used to be posted up on Hip Hop Street Blog. I think the owner of that site, has abandoned ship because their hasn’t been an update there in over a year. So I will be sure to pick up where he left off:

HHS – Alchemist – If you have any Alchemist kit, this is probably it! One of the oldest on the net.

HHS – J Dilla – Swipes from the “Donut” man himself. I’d spend time analyzing those EQ curves if i were you!

HHS – Hi Tek & Nottz – Not a bad swipe set to have. a couple of signature snare / kick sounds in there.  Early G Unit Style.

HHS – Needlz – Similar style to those above, but I’m OCD with it, gotta have them all!

HHS – Noviss – This actually was NEVER on the HHS site, I just named it that a while back for some reason. Anyway, alot of online rappers and producers may remember Noviss from the MP3.com days! Definitely a trailblazer as far as online music goes. He had that classic boom bap style, than suddenly dissapeared.If you know Noviss, or anything about what he is doing these days, please get him in contact with me or the forums at www.rapmusic.com

Jaked Drums – It seems like a blend of various kits put into one, or what this particular producer  prefered to use for his beats, whoever he may be. If you have any information on this kit, please let me know. This has alot of good sounds I know I’ve heard, more recently in a few “online producers turned industry” productions.

M Phasez Dirty 30 – This is volume 1 of 2. I have both, but I figured I share these and let you go purchase the other one.  Dude has a hilarious youtube commercial promoting this volume 2 of this kit. M phasez is like another Croup / Marco / 9th wonder in terms of their style and audience. He uses Nuendo to make his beats, which is very different for that crowd. And does a good job landing placements and collaborations with people making noise in the scene. Check these out, and be sure to support his work if you diggin it!
